A tyre blowout at motorway speed can be frightening, but the correct response significantly reduces the risk of a serious accident. The most important thing is to resist the instinct to brake sharply or wrench the steering wheel. Instead, grip the wheel firmly, ease off the accelerator, and allow the car to decelerate naturally.
Steer smoothly toward the hard shoulder or the nearest motorway exit, signalling early to alert other drivers. A front tyre blowout will pull the vehicle toward the damaged side.
