Correct tyre pressure improves safety, fuel economy, and tyre life. Learn how to check and adjust your tyre pressure in a few simple steps.
Checking tyre pressure regularly is one of the simplest things you can do to extend tyre life, reduce fuel consumption, and keep your vehicle safe. Tyres that are under- or over-inflated wear unevenly, handle poorly in wet conditions, and put unnecessary strain on suspension components.
You can check tyre pressure at most petrol stations using an air pump. First locate the correct pressure for your vehicle — usually displayed on a sticker inside the driver's door frame or in the owner's manual. Pressures are typically given in PSI or bar and may vary between front and rear tyres.
Remove the valve cap from the tyre, press the gauge firmly and squarely onto the valve stem, and read the displayed pressure. Add air in short bursts if the pressure is low, or press the small central pin on the valve to release air if it is too high. Recheck after each adjustment and replace the valve cap when done.
Tyre pressure should be checked at least once a month and always before long motorway journeys. If a tyre is repeatedly losing pressure, it is likely indicating a slow puncture. Contact Glasgow Mobile Tyre Guys on 0141 673 8418 for a rapid inspection, puncture repair, or replacement in Glasgow.
